This building uses low cost construction, utilizing common local techniques – clay blocks with white stucco and hennebique pre-cast concrete slabs – in order to define a two-story building with 9 housing units. The interior space is defined by an open loft that creates the necessary privacy to the bedroom by organizing as a mezzanine. The two blocks create a sequence of spaces with different characters regarding privacy: the completely public character of the street, the semi-public entrance portico, a semi-private internal court, the private interior space of the loft, and finally a private garden for each unit. The planes of walls that characterize the frontal façade define a protection for the tropical sun, working as brise-soleil. The oxidized steel wall configures a base that reduces the maintenance costs due to its rough surface.
