entre book launch
Dec 2012
Published by the Viana & Mosley publisher, “ENTRE – Interviews with Architects by Architecture Students,” organized by Francesco Perrotta-Bosch, Gabriel Kozlowski, Mariana Meneguetti, and Valmir Azevedo, is a compilation of thirteen interviews with a group of prominent Brazilian architects. The term “entre” intrigues with its various meanings. “Being among” is the position in which these four architects gathered during their time as students in the Architecture and Urbanism course at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, to begin assembling an overview of the current moment in Brazilian architecture. The questions, for the most part, do not limit themselves to specificities contained in project examples but privilege a more comprehensive character. They are primarily interested in the problems chosen to be addressed and the critical stances adopted in the moment of design and architectural debate. It is particularly interesting to read the collection of different statements, comparing the relevance that each architect gives to certain issues, such as the different modes of operation in the daily practice of architecture, the relationships created between what is done in the office and teaching methods in the university space, positions regarding issues such as the social function of architecture, sustainability, or tectonics, personal notions of beauty, different views of urbanity, the heroification of certain modernists by some and the effort to deconstruct the heroic aura by others, observing discourses that are structured in the relationships given at the scale of the brick while others are sustained by phenomena that unfold on a global scale.
Featuring interviews with Andrade Morettin, Arquitetos Associados, BLAC, CAMPO aud, Carla Juaçaba, João Walter Toscano, João Filgueiras Lima (Lelé), MMBB, Nitsche Arquitetos Associados, Rua Arquitetos, SPBR, Vazio S/A, Ana Luiza Nobre, and Guilherme Wisnik, this collection presents a group of people extremely capable of participating actively and qualitatively in the transformations to which we are subject in the current moment of 21st-century Brazil.
The launch will take place on December 14th, at 7:00 p.m., at the Travessa bookstore in Leblon, Rio de Janeiro.
