mies crown hall americas prize: outstanding projects
Jun 2014
“The great diversity of these built works is a testament to the creative energy underway in the Americas today,” In April, 226 works from across the Americas were chosen and nominated by 70 ambassadors of various nationalities and professions. The 36 standout projects from MCHAP were selected from those nominated by the inaugural jury, which includes: the jury president, Kenneth Frampton; Wiel Arets; Jorge Francisco Liernur; Dominique Perrault, and Sarah Whiting.
“By honoring these 36 standout projects, we seek to create a deep and meaningful dialogue among the individuals creating these works in the Americas. It’s a dynamic and productive conversation, as we saw when the MCHAP.emerge finalists gathered at the Crown Hall of IIT in Chicago for the first MCHAP symposium.” The winner of MCHAP, chosen from the list of 36 standouts, will be announced on July 9th at a public event broadcast live from Santiago, Chile. The authors of the winning project and the standouts will then be celebrated at a conference at the Crown Hall on October 22nd, where the jury will engage in a direct dialogue about the works as part of an ongoing exploration of how architecture can benefit the lives of people inhabiting these innovative works.”
