Cosmococas Gallery

The design of this new gallery intends to integrate and expand the body of the Inhotim exhibition spaces by adding a new gallery designed specifically to house the five works of the series Cosmococa (1973) by Helio Oiticica
and Neville D’Almeida.

The building is a radical intervention in the topography that, when viewed from below, reinforces its presence as an ambiguous artifact built in stone, and, when viewed from above, as a green roof which is a continuation of the landscape with subtle orthogonal boundaries. This intentionally blurs the boundaries between building and landscape.

The non-hierarchical organization and the access of the exhibition rooms to stimulate the indeterminacy is associated with a sequence of scaling and light – the extension of nature, the partial closing of alleyway, the dark flat hall, and the exhibition rooms.
