The competition “Viva o Mercado” announced its three finalists competitors, one of them being the Arquitetos Associados architecture studio. As informed by IAB-MG, the organizers, the competition stems from the imediate reaction of the civil society, specially concerning the neighbourhood people and the tradicional users of the space, contrary to the proposal presented by the City Council.

Thus, the competition “seeks to reflect on the participative architecture design proposals for the Mercado do Cruzeiro that sought to fulfill a broad program which was conceived in alliance to the needs pointed out by the Community Association of the Cruzeiro Neighborhood (AMOREIRO) and the Merchants Association (ACOMEC)”.

The finalist proposal by Arquitetos Associados has received plenty of praise regarding its formal aspects, its relationship to the Almicar Vianna Martins Park, the preservation of the internal configuration of the Mercado do Cruzeiro and the parking lot solution.
